Manipur govt. announces modalities to assess class 10 and 12 students

Imphal, June 27 (EMN): After cancelling the examinations of classes 10 and 12 conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (CoHSEM) and Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BoSEM), the Education department announced the modalities of assessing the performance of students and grading the students.

Education minister, Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh in a press conference stated that the maximum marks to be assessed for each subject is 100.

The commissioner of Education, M Harekrishna, director of Education (Schools), L Nandakumar Singh and officials of CoHSEM and BoSEM were present during the announcement.

For class 10 students, out of these 100 marks, 20 marks are allotted for the internal assessment of the school, 30 marks from class 9 exam record and 50 marks will be considered on the basis of the performance of the students in pre-board exams (term test and periodic test) conducted in the schools. While for class 12 students, 30 marks will be from Class 10 record (three best subjects), 20 marks from class 11, and 50 marks from class 12 test exams conducted by the schools.

He added that students who are not satisfied with the marking modalities could approach the concerned officials, and special exams will be arranged for them.

The minister stated that 44,068 students from 962 schools had registered to appear for BoSEM Class 10 examination, while 29,517 students had registered for CoHSEM class 12 examinations. He however added that the toppers of the examinations for this year would not be announced.

He further informed that there is an order of the Supreme Court to announce the result of classes 10 and 12 before July 31, and therefore the department is committed to announce the result before the deadline given by the apex court.

He stated that the exams of CoHSEM and BoSEM had been cancelled due to the pandemic and it is not only for the state of Manipur but all over the country.

It may be recalled that the state authority announced the cancellation of these examinations on June 16 in view of the prevailing situation caused by the pandemic.
