Manipur: Nomination for 45 candidates including CM cleared

Imphal, Feb. 9 (EMN): Officials on Wednesday said that the process of scrutiny of nomination papers filed by 45 candidates from 10 assembly constituencies of Imphal East district in poll bound Manipur ended without any rejection of nomination papers.
45 candidates including Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Consumer Affairs minister Th Satyabrata and three women candidates are in the fray to contest the elections in the first-phase polling on February 27.
The scrutiny was held at the various offices of the Returning Officer concerned at the District Election Office, Imphal East.
Meanwhile, the scrutiny process of Bishnupur district having 22 seats under six assembly constituencies also went off without any rejection of nomination papers.
34 nominated candidates for six seats of Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts were also cleared, while the nomination of independent candidate Lunkhosei from Saikot constituency was found invalid.
The details of the scrutiny process of Kangpokpi having three seats were yet to be made available to the media till filing of this report.
It may be mentioned that polling for the 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly will be held in two-phases on February 27 and March 3. The counting will be held on March 10.
