Mokokchung, Oct. 12 (EMN): The Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) Trophy 2022 was kicked off by Aotula T Imchen, SP Mokokchung, at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on October 11.
Imchen in her speech, lauded the MDFA for successfully hosting the tournament for the service of the public and also successfully hosting the Dr.T Ao Trophy.
She also said the tournament was a great platform to promote and motivate grassroots level participation while improving the level of the players to strive towards playing in state, national and international levels.
“We all know football is not just a beautiful game but it is also an emotion for many people. And it should be the collective desire of all that there is unity through sports,” she said, adding that sports is the medium to develop relationships and friendships which allows people to strive and compete hard with the spirit of sportsmanship.
The SP also added that not everyone is meant to excel in studies and likewise in sports, thus platforms as such were needed for one to be aware of their talents and gifts.
She also informed that the government under the initiative and leadership of Nagaland DGP T John Longkumer also inaugurated the sports battalion which will encourage many young talents and give them avenues to excel in life.
Earlier, DC Mokokchung and President, District Sports Council, Shashank Pratap Singh delivered the keynote address and L Yanger Ltr, Convenor delivered a brief greeting.
The inaugural match of the tournament was played between Sports Society Suyim and Revenant FC where the teams shared points with the scoreline 1-1.
SSS broke the deadlock in the 34th minute of the first half with Suyimmayang scoring the goal for the side. However, Talijungba in the 58th minute gave the equaliser for the Revenant side leading the teams to go home with a draw.
