Dimapur, Sep. 30 (EMN): The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) has condemned the rising cases of extortion in and around Mokokchung town by ‘national workers’, thereby vitiating the peaceful atmosphere in the society.

“The recent case involving the national workers from a certain Naga political group, who were arrested while extorting money from travelers, is highly condemnable and cannot be tolerated,” MTLT stated in a press release.

MTLT lauded the Mokokchung police for their prompt action in arresting the anti-social elements and initiating action as per the law of the land.

It also endorsed the press statement of All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT), asking the jailed culprits to leave the town within 15 days of coming out of the jail.

It conveyed its strong support to the union’s stance not to pardon any extortionist and the declaration of taking befitting action against such elements. “The MTLT also strongly supports the direction to every household to always keep three traditional torches ready as practiced in the past,” it added.

It called upon every youth of the town to take serious cognizance of the AWUMT press statement and be ready for any eventuality that may arise.

“Furthermore, let it be known to one and all that the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem will not tolerate any anti-social elements. All peace-loving citizens of the town are requested to remain vigilant so that the peaceful atmosphere of the town is not disturbed in any manner,” read the press release.
