Naga leaders urged to unite all Naga political groups

Dimapur, May 17 (EMN): Emphasising unity as a prerequisite to achieve any goal, president of Niki Sumi-led NSCN/GPRN, Gen. (retired) Niki Sumi, made a clarion call to all Naga tribal leaders to be more committed and active to unite all the Naga political groups and the people at large. He stated that no solution was likely to be achieved unless Naga people irrespective of boundary demarcation are united for one common goal.

Gen. (retired) Niki Sumi stated this during a coordination meeting with a delegation of Dimapur-based Southern Naga civil society organisations (CSO) comprising Southern Naga Union, Poumai Hoho, Tangkhul Naga Long, Mao Naga Union, Maram Naga Union, Lamkang Naga Union, Maring Naga Union, Moyon Naga Union, Thangal Naga Union and Anal Naga Union in the office of its ato kilonser on May 16.

He stated that it is the Naga tribal leaders, who could work and bring the people together in unity, and further give more weightage to Naga people’s voice to the government of India for solution to Naga political struggle, a press release issued by NSCN/GPRN through its MIP stated on Tuesday.

Gen. (retired), Niki Sumi further reaffirmed the stand of the NSCN/GPRN on peace and unity among all sections of Naga society and reminded the tribal leaders that it stood for unity first and solution second.

NSCN/GPRN ato kilonser, Starson Lamkang, has also appreciated the positive response of the Southern Naga public leaders and felt that Naga people must do away with ego and work together in the interest of the people. He called upon the leaders to be ambassadors of peace and unity.

Speaking on the occasion, representatives of Southern Nagas said Nagas have fought together for the rights of Naga people and therefore must resolve the differences and remain united to achieve the dreams and aspirations of the Naga people.

The tribal leaders have denounced all sorts of violence which are against the peace and wellbeing of the people and said lack of sincerity and commitment of the leaders and difference of ideas would confuse the people and prove a setback for the Nagas at large.

While appreciating the stand and the commitment of the NSCN/GPRN, the tribal leaders expressed hope that Almighty God would surely answer the prayers of the Naga people for peace and unity to prevail and for a long lasting solution to the Naga political movement.

The meeting, chaired by its secretary Inovi Naga, commenced with an invocation prayer said by Nihokhu Sumi, kilonser of PR and NGO, and Mhonbemo Tsanglao, speaker of national tatar hoho, proposed the vote of thanks.
