Dimapur, Oct. 2 (EMN): Aruju Tsuki, a bachelor’s dormitory set-up by an NGO at Changtongya in Mokokchung district, organised a programme for Süngpo Züngar — a traditional young peer group among the Ao Naga — on September 29 where they were taught on how to beat a log drum.
Sentirenba, founder and director of Aruju Tsuki, said that he organised the programme as there was a need for learning one’s tradition and that today’s youths are neglecting their traditions.
He also mentioned that beating of log drums and preservation of one’s culture is important in today’s fast-changing world. He stated that failing to inculcate the traditional values would eventually lead to oblivion.
He also mentioned that Aruju Tsuki has been organising programmes to instil traditional skill since 2018. The organisation has also built an Arju (Ao Morung) in 2019 where they keep ancient traditional artefacts and also allow interested youths to learn traditional handicrafts.
