Dimapur, Sep. 16 (EMN): Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) organised stakeholders’ consultation and synergy development workshop on September 14 at CKS Hall in Tuensang town on the theme “Contemporary issues in promotion and protection of child rights.”

An update from DAN stated that the workshop brought together members of the child protection committees, representatives from educational institutions, government departments, NGOs and community leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, Lohu Besii, chief manager of State Bank of India, Tuensang branch, shared about the various programmes and schemes through the banks and financial institutions. He also urged the participants to cultivate the habits of saving and investment.

He has cautioned the participants about the scammers who try to fool the gullible poor and urged the participants to remain safe by not running after easy money or easy ways of earning.

Achu from District Child Protection Unit, Tuensang, shared information on the roles and responsibilities of the department based on the four pillars of the rights of children. While sharing about the work of the unit, he encouraged the participants to come forward and report any cases of abuse or denial of rights relating to children.

He informed that the in most families and communities such cases are compromised or covered up due to lack of knowledge or to avoid social stigma.

Tsopong, inspector of Social Welfare Department, Tuensang, spoke on the schemes for the differently-abled people. He presented statistics of the beneficiaries in the district and also shared the process and procedures of availing the benefits.

Superintendents of Bethel Children Home and Kohdi Children Home shared their experiences and aspiration for the area especially for the children.
