Nagaland Governor advocates holistic education; knowledge over degrees
Dimapur, Oct. 27 (EMN): Governor of Nagaland, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, on Thursday, shared that it is the responsibility of schools, both government and private, to provide holistic education to students so that they can efficiently discharge their duties to the community and nation.
He added that more than degrees, it is knowledge that gives a person ‘immense intellectual satisfaction’.
The governor was speaking at a programme held at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Lerie in Kohima.
Mukhi also highlighted the significant aspects of the National Education Policy 2020, which he said is a ‘progressive and future-oriented initiative’ that addresses critical issues such as equitable access to higher education, bridging the gap between current and desirable learning outcomes with more impetus on cognitive skills, social and emotional skills.
In his brief address, the governor stated that Kendriya Vidyalaya has emerged as a prestigious school in the town. He said that the school which was established in 1999 and has now been upgraded to class 10, imparting quality education to students.
He stated that an institution must contribute towards empowering the community, adding that it was heartening to learn that the school caters to the educational needs of children of Central government employees including Defence and Paramilitary personnel by providing a common programme on education, initiating and promoting experimentation and innovation in education in collaboration with other bodies like the Central Board of Secondary Education and the National Council of Educational Research and Training etc.
‘Our objective about education is to excel as duty-conscious and decent citizens of India, keeping our Motherland in mind and the feeling of nationalism up-front and to strive and contribute to the growth and development of our nation’, he said, according to an update from PRO Raj Bhavan.
“As we celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence, we should be proud of our freedom and now is the time to reflect on our achievements with pride and hope, knowing that despite the various challenges, setbacks and despair, the combined efforts of dedicated and selfless sacrifices of our brave countrymen and women, have laid the foundation on which we can build a brighter future for our country,” read the statement.
Mukhi also encouraged the students to dream big in life and work hard to achieve their goals as there is no shortcut to success.
He also urged the teachers to give their best for the growth and welfare of the school and most importantly for nurturing and moulding the students, despite several shortcomings in terms of infrastructure, communication etc.
Earlier, a patriotic dance and a traditional Naga folk dance was presented by the students of KVS; Vidyalaya management committee member, Annie Sale, delivered the welcome address, Principal (I/C) KV Kohima, Sh Santosh Kumar Roy gave a short speech, and DC (I/C) KVS RO Tinsukia proposed the vote of thanks. Later, the students and teachers also had a short interaction with the governor.
