Nagaland: LFI collaborates with government’s CSIR-JIGYASA programme

Team CSIR-NEIST giving away laboratory equipments to the Livingstone Foundation International during a meeting on March 17.

Dimapur, March 18 (EMN): Livingstone Foundation International became one of the few schools in Nagaland to collaborate with the Central government’s Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-JIGYASA programme.

An update from LFI stated that the A team of experts and officials from CSIR-NEIST (North East Institute of Science and Technology), Jorhat, Assam, visited the school on March 17, during which they had a formal interaction with the students, faculty and the school management led by its chairman, Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema. It mentioned that CSIR-NEIST was earlier known as Regional Research Laboratory (RRL).

During interactive session with the students, Anshuman Goswami from team Jigyasa explained the various aspects of the programme whereby the students would be aided in communicating with scientists from across the country through online platforms. He also mentioned that the primary objective of the programme was to create a scientific temperament among the student community of India, especially the Northeastern students.

At present, CSIR has 32 branch labs across the country where the students could carry out various experiments. JIGYASA is one of the major initiatives taken up by CSIR at the national level during its platinum jubilee celebration year. It added that CSIR is widening and deepening its scientific social responsibility (SSR) further with the programme.

The CSIR JIGYASA programme is a unique platform for bringing scientists and teachers for nurturing young minds. The programme envisaged opening up the national scientific facilities to school students, enabling CSIR scientific knowledgebase and facility to be utilised by school-students. The other activities of JIGYASA programme included laboratory visit, popular lecture series, summer vacation programmes, teachers’ workshop, student residential programme, visit of students to schools, lab specific activities/ onsite experiments and many more.

The team from CSIR-NEIST has presented some lab equipments to the LFI chairman. The team included Nandan Kumar, research associate at CSIR-NEIST; Anshuman Goswami, team JIGYASA; Himangshu Lekhak, senior technical officer at CSIR-NEIST; and Ravi Kumar Sahu, technical assistant at CSIR-NEIST.
