Nagaland observes ‘International Day of Yoga’

Dimapur, June 21 (EMN): Along with the rest of the world, Nagaland observed the 8th edition of the International Day of Yoga on June 21 on the theme “Yoga for humanity.”

Wokha: The department of Youth Resources and Sports, Wokha, in coordination with NYKS, NCC, NSS and BS&G organised the event at the indoor badminton stadium of Government Higher. Secondary School in Wokha town.

Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner of Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, highlighted the importance and benefits of practicing yoga and urged the participants to make it part of their daily routine.

Officials from the district administration and other departments along with the students took part in the programme.

Zunheboto: Commemorating the International Day of Yoga, Zunheboto district organised a mass yoga session at DSCZ stadium, Zunheboto.

Speaking at the introductory programme, the EAC of Zunheboto, N Nyamok Konyak, said yoga should be part of everyone’s daily lives as it not only keeps an individual physically healthy but also mentally fit. The yoga session was conducted by instructor Angukato from Cornerstone Higher Secondary School, Zunheboto.

The event was jointly organised by NYKS, NSS, and the department of Youth Resources and Sports.

Dimapur: Central Bureau of Communication, Field Office, Kohima, under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School (PVHSS) and PYS observed the International Day of Yoga at Pranab jubilee auditorium, Dimapur.

Addressing the function as the special guest, Sachin Jaiswal, deputy commissioner of Dimapur, called upon the gathering to adopt yoga as a form of lifestyle. He has highlighted the benefits of yoga in balancing one’s body, mind and soul. He also encouraged the students to practice yoga for better focus in their studies.

In his keynote address, Manoj Bhatacharjee, principal of PVHSS, pointed out that yoga day should become a people’s movement and be a part of one’s habits.

Yoga demonstration was curated by Krishna Andaji, state BST vice president.

YR&S Dimapur: Department of Youth Resources and Sports also commemorated the International Day of Yoga at District Stadium, Dimapur.

Delivering a short speech, SDO (L), Samuel, dwelt on the benefits of yoga for health and happiness saying “Like music, the rhythm of the body, melody of the mind, and harmony of the soul create a symphony of life through yoga.”

The yoga session was led by Kunjan Rani and the vote of thanks was delivered by the state coach, Khriehotou Tsiro.

173 CRPF: The 173 battalion CRPF organised a grand yoga event at its battalion headquarters near Dimapur airfield to mark the 8th International Yoga Day with the participation of about 300 personnel including officers, jawans and families.

Vishnu Gautam, commandant of 173 Bn CRPF, exhorted the participants on the importance of practicing yoga both for physical and mental health wellbeing.

He further encouraged them to use yoga as an effective tool to fight the stress induced by modern lifestyle.

Nagaland BJP: Nagaland state BJP its minority morcha observed the International Day of Yoga on June 21. BJP minority wing observed the day at Kachari ruins in Dimapur, which was participated by more than hundred BJP karyakartas from Dimapur mandal 1, Dimapur mandal 2, Dimapur mandal 3 and NGO.

Speaking on the occasion, Deep Kumar, president of BJP minority morcha, stressed the importance of yoga in daily life. He stated that yoga was a gift from India to the world as many people have accepted yoga to move towards a healthy and better lifestyle. The yoga session was led by Subroto Nath from Patanjali Yoga Samiti. The state BJP parent body also observed the day by organising a programme throughout the state. The state vice president, Basu Damani stated that the day was initiated by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, which was officially recognised by the United Nations.

DGC: Dimapur Government College (DGC) observed the International Yoga Day at the college auditorium, which was organised by the sports committee of the college.

The yoga session was led by noted yoga trainer, Orentsani Kikon, who currently runs the Orentsani Aesthetic Fitness, Dimapur. She was aided by Medoseno Nagi, senior assistant instructor at Orentsani Aesthetic Fitness, Dimapur.

The programme saw an active participation of college’s principal, Dr. M Libanthung Ngullie, and faculty members along with NCC and students of the college.

Yoga MGM College
Students of MGM College are seen participating at the yoga session on the occasion of International Yoga Day on Tuesday.

MGM School: MGM College commemorated the International Yoga Day with the participation of faculty and students from BA and B Com 3rd and 5th semesters held at the college auditorium.

The college’s principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. PS Varghese, had organised a team of yoga practitioners from Yoga Studio, Dimapur, for the smooth conduct of International Yoga Day. The team, including Rita Singh, Sumitra Biswas, Keenjarani Sharma and Sabi Devi, conducted a short class on the benefits of yoga and how it could help in improving concentration and attain inner peace. They have also demonstrated asanas on stretching, neck bending, butterfly posture, sun salutation and concluded with meditation.

Modern College: Modern College, in collaboration with 7th Assam Rifle, Ghaspani, observed the International Yoga Day at Piphema campus.

The welcome address was delivered by A Nenia Theresa, while a song was presented by Poujakdai and Shrijana.

It informed that students and teachers of the college have participated in yoga sessions conducted by the Assam Rifle for healthy mind and soul. Meanwhile, the college has acknowledged the 7th Assam Rifle, Medziphema, for providing an excavator (JCB) for leveling the football ground from February 8 to the 21st.

AR Kohima: Commemorating the International Day of Yoga, Kohima battalion of Assam Rifles organised a mass yoga demonstration and pipe band display for schools of Kohima district at Indira Gandhi Stadium on June 20.

The event witnessed participation of 426 students and 62 teachers from 46 schools from Kohima. It informed that school children were made aware about various yoga postures, its benefits for health and for improving focus on studies by instructors from The Art of Living.

The yoga session was followed with a display by the pipe band of Kohima battalion of Assam Rifles. The winners of ‘yoga and me’ photography contest, organised by Kohima battalion of Assam Rifles in early June 2022, were also felicitated.

Mokokchung: Department of Youth Resources and Sports, in collaboration with NYKS, NSS, NCC and Bharat Scouts and Guides observed the International Day of Yoga at the Multipurpose Indoor Stadium in Mokokchung town.

The one hour-long session was attended by around 60 participants, wherein the yoga session was led by Vivendra Singh, Havildar of 25 BN NCC, Mokokchung.

Yoga LIF
Students of Livingstone Foundation International are seen performing yoga stance on the occasion of International Day of Yoga on Tuesday.

LFI: Livingstone Foundation Society also observed the International Day of Yoga by organising a host of activities involving students, mentors and parents.

In a run up to the main event, on June 16 and 17, various literary activities including fine arts, essay writing, poster making and speech competitions were conducted for the students and mentors.

To mark occasion, the institution has organised a seminar on the importance and benefits of yoga for parents, mentors and students on June 20 led by Orentsani Kikon, a professional certified yoga trainer and president of Nagaland Yogasana Sports Association and brand ambassador of Nagaland for NEB Sports and CYRUNS. During the seminar, the resource person has highlighted the various health benefits of performing yoga on a regular basis including its positive impact on an individual’s body, mind and soul.

The observance of International Day of Yoga culminated on June 21 with the performance of mass yoga by the students and mentors at its premises.
