DIMAPUR — The Nagaland government has announced an increase in tax rates on diesel, petrol, and other motor spirits, effective from midnight on Sunday, June 30.

The new diesel tax rate is 17.20% or INR 12.83 per litre, whichever is higher, up from 16.5% or INR 10.51 per litre. For petrol and other motor spirits, the rate has been revised from 25% or INR 16.04 per litre to 21.75% or INR 16.94 per litre.

This decision was made by the Governor of Nagaland, exercising the powers granted by the Nagaland (Sales of Petroleum and Petroleum Products including Motor Spirit and Lubricants) Taxation Act, 1967, to adjust the rates prescribed in Schedule II of the Act, according to a notification recently issued by the Additional Chief Secretary and Finance Commissioner.

Further, it revoked previous notifications dated November 16, 2004 (surcharge), February 14, 2020 (road maintenance cess), and November 4, 2021 (rebates) regarding diesel and petrol.
