Nagaland was awarded 14 National Highway widening and Road over Bridges (RoB) works in the past three years.
DIMAPUR — Nagaland was awarded 14 National Highway widening and Road over Bridges (RoB) works measuring 337 km in length and sanctioned an amount of INR 4,446 crore in the past three years.
This was informed by the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Nitin Gadkari, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. He informed that out of the 14 works awarded, 11 works measuring 217.26 km have been completed at the cost of INR 2,731.73 crore during the last three years.
He mentioned that in Northeastern states, a total of 179 widening (expansions) works on National Highways and 13 ROB works were awarded during the last three years. He added that 62 National Highway widening (expansion) and RoB works at a total cost of INR 13,690 crore including eight works out of those awarded during the last three years have been completed.
All the national highway works including those in North Eastern Region (NER) states are being executed by contractors as per the standard and specifications of the ministry or relevant IRC codes, he said adding that works are supervised through an authority engineer or independent engineer appointed by the authority.
He stated that tests on the works are carried out as per prescribed frequency during various stages of construction for checking quality and ensuring its conformity to the laid down standard and specifications prescribed under the contract.
Inspections are also carried out by field officers of implementing agencies from time to time apart from inspections by Ministry’s officers for ensuring quality and adherence to norms, he added.
He further stated that all the works including in Northeastern states are regularly reviewed and monitored at the levels of implementing agencies, regional offices and the ministry’s headquarters for their timely completion.
