Nagaland: St. Joseph University organises outreach programme for students
Dimapur, Aug. 26 (EMN): With an objective to generate interest and curiosity about Chemistry in early stage of education, the Chemistry department of St. Joseph University (SJU) organised an outreach programme for the students of Government Primary School in Ikishe village on August 23 on the theme “Reaching and teaching Chemistry to kids.”
An update from the university stated that the team was led by Dr. Parimal C Bhomick and assistant professor of Chemistry, Dr. Thechano Merry, along with student volunteers.
The programme comprised of five different fun chemistry experiments demonstrated by student volunteers. The five experiments were ‘Money on fire’ demonstrated by Akhiu K Yimchunger and Putusenla Pongen, ‘Water to wine and milk’ by Thepfuruokuo Rulho and K Tochingsangla Chang, ‘Vanishing styrofoam’ by D Thounagai and Isuibuile, ‘Carbon snake’ by Stephen J Kithan and Rovikedonuo Meru, and ‘Elephant’s toothpaste’ by Shepazo Chizo and Wongsu Tutsuliu.
It mentioned that the whole session of the experiments was filled with fun, laughter and chemistry. It added that the students liked all the experiments and were interested to pursue Science.
A total of 20 students from Grade 3 to 5 have participated in the programme.
