Nagaland: Teachers reminded of their responsibilities on Teachers’ Day

Mokokchung/ Dimapur Sep. 5 (EMN): A retired school principal, Akok Walling, has described teachers as ‘pool of knowledge and information’ and maintained that they should make themselves available not only in the classrooms but for the society anytime.
Speaking at the 60th Teachers’ Day celebration organised by the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) in Mokokchung on Sunday, Walling stated that “If education is the backbone of a nation, then teachers are the architect/ designer of this backbone.”
The retired principal also warned the teachers that a little misuse/ abuse of their position, slight negligence or carelessness in their responsibility could make a generation take a wrong direction and take several generations to correct the same.
He, however, asserted that a small step of dedication in building a citizen could bring out a huge change and become a national asset. He further cautioned against the danger of modern technology upon the children.
Also speaking in the programme, the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung, Limawabang Jamir, lauded the teachers for responding positively to the challenge in delivering education to the students through digital media even in these trying times.
Jamir further encouraged the teachers to work harder in order to bring out the best result.
In a related programme, the Western Sümi Baptist Akukhou Küqhakulu (WSBAK) celebrated Teachers’ Day in Chekiye Village Baptist Church, Dimapur, on September 5.
Speaking at the programme, advisor of School Education KT Sukhalu regretted that government schools were lacking behind the private school counterparts despite sufficient teachers.
Sukhalu urged the teachers to nurture the children to become responsible citizens in the society. He, therefore, urged the teachers to take their responsibilities in moulding the children for a better society.
Sukhalu further lamented the decreasing rate of enrolment of students in government schools particularly in Sümi region.
During the event, short speeches were also delivered by the president of Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) Shikaho Zhimomi, president of Western Sumi Kükami Hoho (WSKH) and senior SDEO, Kisheli Shikhu while a blessing prayer for the teachers was delivered by Rev. Dr. Hevukhu Achumi.
DMHHS: Management of the Dimapur Mission Higher Secondary School (DMHHS) organised a Teacher’s Day celebration programme at DABA Town Fellowship Church building on September 4.
While appreciating the contribution of the teachers in nation building, Rev. I Wati, pastor of DABA, encouraged the teaching community to have patience in moulding the students with different characters, an update from the school management board stated.
“You are not teaching only a prescribed syllabus in the school but most importantly, you are making a huge impact on hundreds of students by your lifestyle and characters,” the Reverend exhorted the teachers. Also reminding that the teaching profession was noble and honourable, he stated that teachers are chosen people by God.
The school governing board chairman, K Temjen Jamir, felicitated the teachers by giving away awards and gifts in recognition of their commitment and extra care shown to the students particularly during difficult times.
The school principal, Alemtushi, presented the school academic report, while Meyamongla delivered a word of gratitude to the school management on behalf of the teachers.
MGM College: MGM College celebrated ‘Teacher’s Day on September 4 at the college auditorium hall.
The programme began with an invocation prayer said by Angukali Ayemi of BA 5th semester, while songs were presented by students of BA third semester, Wipiliu of BA third semester and Krishna of BA first semester. It stated that Wepezo of BA fifth semester performed his original song.
The college principal Dr. Fr. PS Varghese delivered a speech, while the vote of thanks was delivered by the vice principal and concluded with a benediction said by Manlemangba of 5th semester.
MCC: Model Christian College celebrated Teacher’s Day on September 4 at the college premises.
Maongtula Jamir of BA 5th semester led the programme, while Thujosulu Rhakho, MCCEU president, said the opening prayer and Kihobo, Niloli and Ritsali gave special presentations.
The college felicitated the teachers of Botany and Geology departments for producing toppers in the last university examinations.
Teachers’ Day greetings
ANPSA Kohima: Meanwhile, the Kohima unit of All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA) greeted all the teachers on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. It appreciated the teachers for making every attempt in providing education to the students in all ways possible including online education despite all the obstacles and network issues during the lockdown.
The unit further congratulated all the recipients of Teachers Award 2021 both at the district and state levels.
Y Patton: In a separate statement, the deputy chief minister, Y Patton has greeted the teachers on the occasion of Teachers’ Day celebration for going an extra mile by imparting quality education to the students even during this pandemic period through online classes.
Stating that the impact of influence a teacher has on the students is immeasurable; he urged them to be more sincere and dedicated in their duties and not get discouraged by the hardships.
NPCC: The president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), K Therie, has acknowledged the contributions of teachers for igniting and motivating the minds of students to invent and advance.
Therie stated that not only the teachers but every institution including political parties are expected to teach and lead to the right path. He has attributed free gifts, free money and free food as the root causes of corruption.
He, therefore, stated that every sensible citizen should teach what is right and wrong according to religion and the law of the land.
