Nagaland University, NSHRC hold human rights awareness programme
DIMAPUR — Nagaland University, in collaboration with the Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC), held an awareness programme on human rights on Thursday at Nagaland University headquarters in Lumami.
According to a press release, the event aimed to educate and empower members of the university community about their fundamental rights and had Justice Songkhup Chung Serto, Chairperson of the NSHRC, as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Jagadish Kumar Patnaik emphasised the significance of human rights, sharing insights into the pivotal role they play in the nation’s fabric. Moamenla Amer, head of the department of Political Science, highlighted the primary objective of the awareness programme, stressing its concentration on educating attendees about their rights.
R Nzanbemo Lotha, a member of the NSHRC, elucidated the crucial role of the human rights commission through a presentation during the programme, which saw the participation of more than 500 students, scholars, faculty, and non-teaching staff.
