Nagaland’s active Covid-19 cases rise to 139 with detection of 22 new infections

Longleng district administration says it wasn’t apprised of mandatory Covid testing for players ahead of Dr. T Ao Trophy

Dimapur, April 16 (EMN): Nagaland’s active Covid-19 caseload has increased to 139 with 22 new infections being detected on Friday. The state’s Covid tally now stands at 12504.

An update from state’s Health and Family Welfare minister, S Pangnyu Phom informed that 15 new cases were detected in Dimapur, four in Kohima, two in Mokokchung and one in Longleng, in the last 24 hours.

Out of the 139 active Covid-19 cases, 125 are asymptomatic, 11 mild and three moderate on oxygen. In regard to district-wise distribution of active cases, Dimapur has 71, 54 in Kohima, six in Mokokchung, four in Phek, three in Longleng and one in Wokha, while the remaining districts are Covid-free

The state also registered two recoveries on Friday, one each in Dimapur and Kohima, taking the total number of recoveries to 12102, while the death toll so far stands at 83.

Clarification on Covid test

Meanwhile, District Administration, Longleng stated through a press release on Friday that neither the Tasks Force for Covid-19 nor the department of Health and Family Welfare in the district were informed about the mandatory Covid testing of players participating in the 21st Inter-District Football Championship 2021 (Dr. T Ao Trophy) before leaving for Kohima.

In this regard, the district administration Longleng has appealed to all concerned authorities to ensure proper dissemination of information in order to avoid such incidents in the future.

The clarification came close on the heels of Dr. T Ao Trophy being kept in abeyance, just days into the tournament, after several participants were tested positive for Covid-19 and a few locations, including the main stadium of the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, were declared containment zone.
