Dimapur — A ten-day combined annual training camp (CATC-31)-cum-pre-All India Vayu Sainik Camp-I for the NCC Air Wing cadets, organised by 1 Nagaland Air Squadron NCC, Dimapur, under the aegis of NCC Group Headquarters, Kohima, got underwat at Patkai Christian College (PCC) on June 30.
A defence release informed that the camp is being held as a preparatory training to selection cadets for the prestigious All India Vayu Sainik Camp scheduled to be held in Bengaluru in the month of September 2023. The ten-day camp is aimed at providing intensive training to 449 air wing cadets from all over the NE states, which would conclude on July 9.
It stated that the training is being conducted by three flying branch officers, 16 IAF/ army instructional staff, three aero-modeling instructors, and nine associated NCC officers (ANO).
The focus of the camp, which is in accordance with the aim of NCC, is to develop character, camaraderie, a secular outlook, spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service among the cadets. The camp, being a pre-All India Vayu Sainik selection camp, the training syllabus is being emphasised on flying and aviation related topics besides the usual training in drill, health and hygiene, nutrition, firing practice, aero-modeling, tent pitching etc.
It mentioned that till July 3, more than 70 cadets of senior wing have undergone training flights in the camp and over 150 cadets have undergone firing training. It added that various classes and demonstrations are scheduled on skill development, first aid, disaster management and cyber hygiene for overall personality development of the cadets. Career counseling lectures by officers of Indian Air Force has also been planned.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Col. Manjeet Katoch, officiating croup commander of NCC Group HQ, Kohima, welcomed the cadets and motivated them to make full use of the training activities planned in the camp. He also explained benefits of various certificates issued by the NCC.
While interacting with the cadets, he has emphasised on the importance of time management, discipline, role of cadets in nation building and service to the nation.
