DIMAPUR — The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and its parliamentary party, in a joint meeting on June 12, adopted a series of resolutions outlining their stance on key issues and reaffirming their commitment to the people of Nagaland.

In a statement received here on Thursday, the NDPP congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for its ‘comprehensive victory’ in the recent Lok Sabha election and for successfully forming the government at the Centre for the third consecutive time.

The party also made a strong appeal to the prime minister and the NDA government to safeguard the interests of weaker sections, minorities as well as all religions and ensure secularism and equality for all under the Constitution of India.

In the context of Nagaland state, it acknowledged that the Lok Sabha election resul would serve as a motivation for the party and its legislators to introspect, take corrective measures and continue to pursue the party constitution, commitments and manifesto towards serving the people of the state.

“The house unanimously agrees that success or failure is a collective responsibility and take this mandate as a collective responsibility of the party and legislators,” it said.

Putting on record its respect for the mandate of the people of Nagaland, the NDPP congratulated S Supongmeren Jamir, the newly elected Member of Parliament, and expressed hope that he will effectively represent the voice of the Naga people without malice or favour.

Furthermore, the NDPP welcomed the formation of the Political Affairs Committee (at the government level) and the Political Consultative Committee (at the level of political parties). Reaffirming its sincerity towards the early resolution of the Indo-Naga political issue, the party reiterated its commitment towards facilitating the ongoing Indo-Naga political negotiations, and paving the way for a “political settlement that is inclusive and acceptable to the people”, as outlined in its manifesto.

The NDPP assured the people of Nagaland that they will continue to work for their welfare, as outlined in its manifesto and constitution, and called upon the people to participate and ensure the successful conduct of upcoming urban local body (ULB) elections.

Additionally, the party congratulated the Election Commission of India, the State Election Commission, the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, the state machinery, the central paramilitary forces, and the people of Nagaland for successfully conducting the recent election peacefully.

It also reaffirmed its support and confidence in the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and party president Chingwang Konyak in its collective endeavour to serving the citizens of the state.
