DIMAPUR — An induction programme for the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) batch of 2024–2027 is underway at the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Chümoukedima.

It commenced on July 9 and will conclude on July 22, according to a press release.

Dr. Fr. CP Anto, principal of NEISSR, emphasised the evolving landscape of social work in the region during his inaugural address. He highlighted recent changes, challenges, opportunities, and the need for effective approaches and best practices tailored to the unique social and cultural context of Nagaland to set a strong foundation for students in their academic journey and future social work endeavours.

Bokatoli Kinimi Z, assistant professor at NEISSR, elaborated on the concept of ‘Sarvodaya’, which emphasises the ‘welfare of all’ and serves as a guiding principle for NEISSR Social Work students.

She also informed the students about NEISSR’s rules and regulations and introduced various cells, including the anti-ragging cell, women’s cell, and anti-harassment cell, explaining their purposes, policies, and procedures to support and ensure a safe and supportive environment.

In the following days of the ongoing event, students received orientation on the BSW curriculum, its objectives and outcomes, the foundational structure and activities of the Peace Channel, the role of peer mediation in resolving conflicts and fostering a harmonious community, as well as training in conflict resolution techniques, communication skills, and strategies for building trust and cooperation among peers.

The students were also familiarised with Meta AI, ChatGPT, Claude AI, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Turnitin, exploring how these tools can enhance social work practices through data analysis, communication support, and plagiarism detection, thus preparing them for modern challenges.
