NEISSR hosts interactive session on spirituality in social work
DIMAPUR — North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Chümoukedima, welcomed the SPLENDOUR Outreach Team from Malaysia and Singapore for an interactive session led by Rev. Deacon Dr. Sherman Kuek.
Held at the Bishop Abraham Memorial Hall within the Peace Centre, the event emphasised the integration of spirituality within social work practice, stated a press release.
Dr. Fr. CP Anto, principal of NEISSR, on the occasion expressed gratitude to Dr. Kuek for facilitating the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NEISSR and CHRISTE.
He shared that this partnership has enabled NEISSR to provide scholarships for underprivileged Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students and has fostered collaboration on various research initiatives.
In his keynote address, Dr. Kuek commended NEISSR and the Kohima Diocese for establishing the institution in the Northeast, highlighted the valuable role of peace studies in addressing conflicts and praised the unique blend of spirituality and social work fostered by NEISSR.
He encouraged participants to approach the social work profession with a spirit of compassion, commitment, and dedication, emphasising Christian values such as love, peace, and justice.
During the Q&A session, students engaged with Dr. Kuek on diverse topics, including how to cultivate spiritual growth as students.
