KOHIMA — The NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) Sunday announced the signing of Spanish forward Guillermo Fernández Hierro.
The 31-year-old forward began his career with Athletic Bilbao, making his first-team debut in La Liga in 2013. He also played for clubs like Elche, CD Numancia, and most recently for Cultural Leonesa.
His notable achievements include scoring goals in UEFA Champions’ League group phase against FC Porto, La Liga and Copa del Rey. He also played a crucial role in CD Numancia’s successful campaigns in Segunda División.
“Fernández has consistently demonstrated his skill on the field with his ability to adapt and perform in various attacking roles. His experience in Spain’s top leagues brings valuable expertise to NorthEast United FC, strengthening the team’s attacking lineup. The club is optimistic about the impact Guillermo will have in the upcoming season”, the club stated.

On joining the highlanders, Fernández said, “I am very excited to work with the team and coaching staff. The club has shown faith in me, and I am ready to repay them and set my mark in the Indian Super League.”
Speaking about the latest addition, NEUFC head coach, Juan Pedro Benali said Fernández is an experienced professional and that his career says it all. He is hopeful that the new forward will give club the much-needed boost.
Mandar Tamhane, CEO of NorthEast United FC believed that with Fernández on the team the club have got the right fit. He added that Guillermo has played at the top level in Europe and would bring wealth of experience that will help the team and the players around him to grow.
