Newly elected Nagaland legislators resolute in easing people’s burden, says KG Kenye
Kohima: The newly elected members of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) are confronted with many issues but everyone is resolved to ease the burden of the people, said Minister of Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye.
He was speaking during a felicitation programme organised by the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) for its four legislators – Kenye, Kuzholuzo Nienu, Kudecho Khamo and Dr. Neisatuo Mero — at Hotel Japfü in Kohima on Wednesday.
While stressing on the need for unity among the people, Kenye said Nagas from east, west, north and south aspire for integration but practically, the numbers and territory were reducing, which contradicts the aspirations of the people.
In this regard, he said the society should be firmly rooted to the ground and take practical steps.
Meanwhile, MLA and NPF Legislature party leader Nienu, lamented that the people only talking about the ruling party ticket and money instead of principles, manifesto, Naga issue and history.
He said 2024 will be a crucial year as Lok Sabha election will be held.
On the urban local bodies (ULBs) elections announced by the state government, he suggested the NLA either passes an act to repeal the contentious portion of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 during the ongoing session or convene a special session before May 16, to avoid the possibility of the people abstaining from taking part in the election, heeding to the call of the tribal bodies.
Speaking at the programme, Advisor of Civil Administration Works Division and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo, thanked the people for giving them the mandate. While assuring vowed to work for the welfare of people, he also sought community support, saying that there are too many challenges ahead.
Also speaking at the programme, MLA Dr. Neisatuo Mero, urged the people to work together and sought support of former legislators, bureaucrats and the public.
Earlier in the programme, CPO President Vezuhu Keyho congratulated the legislators in his welcome address. Maintaining that they are community leaders irrespective of party affiliation, he asked them to give their best to the society and towards development.
He told the legislators to courageously pursue the truth for the Nagas, while assuring that the Chakhesang public is behind their leadership.
On the occasion, short speeches were also by Vezhoduyi Nakro, President of Chakhesang Youth Front; Zhonelu Tunyi, President Chakhesang Mother’s Association; Avezo Kevin Kapuh, President of Chakhesang Students Union; and Rev. Vezopa Rhakho, Convenor Chakhesang Clean Election Movement.
