Kohima, April 28 (EMN): Nagaland Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha on Thursday stated that the state has been marching shoulder to shoulder with various initiatives the country has taken up to make the lives of the people better and to improve infrastructure.

‘On every parameter, we have done very well and one can feel the advancement and progress over the years and credit goes to all citizens,’ he said.

Sinha was addressing the launch of the week-long Northeast festival in Kohima as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM).

He said that the state has traveled a long journey and will be completing six decades of statehood next year.

‘The way we have run our grassroots institutions and the way we have dealt with problems at the village level, other people have learned from the state and have tried to create a system imbibing those features,’ he told the gathering

He pointed out that there are still areas for improvement. Yet, with the passion and zeal of all, he expressed hope to address the issues and work on areas that are lagging and fill up the gaps, to make Nagaland ‘one of the most developed and progressive states in the country’.

The Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER) and North Eastern Council (NEC) are organizing the week-long festival from April 28 to May 4 to celebrate the vision for a developed and prosperous Northeast region.

As part of the celebration, the Nagaland government has chosen the theme ‘Journey of Nagaland since statehood’, and a video of it was presented and a photography exhibition set up by the department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).

On May 2, the state government will also organise a programme on the theme “Monetising agri-horti and organic potentials of Northeast through value chain development” at NE Agri Expo, 4th Mile in Chumoukedima.

Minister of state for DoNER, BL Verma will be the special guest of the event.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will inaugurate the Community Market Complex at NE Agri expo at 9:25 am on the day, before Verma inaugurates Naturally Nagaland exhibition stalls.

The week-long festival will culminate on May 4 at Guwahati, which will be attended by the President of India.
