NPP Mokokchung alleges misconduct by police personnel
Mokokchung unit of the National People’s Party (NPP) has taken strong exception on the serious breach of the ECI model code of conduct (MCC) by some of the police personnel supposedly under medical leave, who were involved in open show of support and active conduct of campaigning in favour of an opponent party’s candidate under 22 Arkakong Assembly Constituency in Mokokchung district.
An update from NPP Mokokchung unit claimed that the public of the constituency has enough evidence to prove the direct involvement of around 20 police personnel in civil dress, who were taking open and active part in campaigning in favour of our opponent party’s candidate.
“There is also enough evidence to prove the involvement of high ranking police officers who are deliberately posting and deputing the police personnel according to their personal whims so that the chances are made favourable for the candidates whom they support and in order to sabotage the efforts of the other parties,” claimed NPP district president, Tsuknung Jamir.
He stated that such misuse of power and authority by the erring police personnel was totally unwarranted and unacceptable in today’s civilised society especially when they have been given such a civic and responsible duty to uphold the constitutional law and to safeguard the rights of the common public.
In the light of the above stated circumstances, NPP Mokokchung district has appealed to the concerned authorities including the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and the Director General of Police (DGP) to immediately initiate a thorough investigation and take necessary action against those erring police personnel including the high ranking police officers as they have not only brought disrepute to a pristine organisation like the Police department but also grossly violated the ECI model code of conduct.
It further called upon all right-thinking citizens to join the party in condemning such unconstitutional and uncivilised actions and commit themselves in making the election process a healthy, peaceful and democratic one. Dimapur, Feb. 23 (EMN)
