DIMAPUR — The NSCN (IM) and the government of India (GoI) will resume peace talks this month for solution to the protracted Naga political issue, although the exact date for the meet could not be ascertained.

Sources informed Eastern Mirror that the NSCN (IM) team is likely to leave for New Delhi next week for talks with the central leaders.

The NSCN (IM) delegation had earlier postponed its scheduled trip to the national capital on June 30.

Meanwhile, Northeast Live channel has reported that the Centre is set to hold urgent talks with the NSCN (IM) and the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG) with a twin agenda of moving towards the final solution to the long-standing Naga issue and to de-escalate the situation in Manipur as neutral entities. It said the delegations of the two groups would soon leave for Delhi without revealing the exact date.

The government of India’s interlocutor for Naga peace talks AK Mishra had last held eparate talks with leaders of three Naga political groups including the NSCN (IM), WC/NNPG and Niki-led NSCN(K) at Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex in Chümoukedima, in April this year.

It was reported that the closed-door meeting with the NSCN (I-M) in April “was positive and that both sides had agreed to seek solution on the basis of the Framework Agreement.”

Prior to the state assembly election, Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Nagaland in February 2023 had said that the BJP-led central government wants a quick solution to the decades old Naga peace talk, while reiterating that the central government’s aim is to make the peace talks successful and solve the Naga issue promptly.

It is the eighth year since the Modi government inked the Framework Agreement with the NSCN-IM on August 2015 and sixth year the Agreed Position with the NNPGs in 2017.
