Kilonser, Public relation and NGO, NSCN (K), Zheito Murumi, on Tuesday, reaffirmed its stand to impeach the president of NSCN (K), Khango Konyak, asserting that requests to revoke the impeachment order of Isak Sumi were not taken into consideration.

Murumi said Konyak stuck to his impeachment order and therefore, the group decided to move ahead in accordance with the NSCN/GPRN constitution, and the vice president, Luyanba Yimkhiung, assumed charge as acting president of NSCN/GPRN.

Addressing a press conference at the residence of Isak Sumi at Toluvi village, Dimapur, Murumi said ‘the decision of the government must be in accordance with the Yehzabo and impeaching Ato Kilonser Col. (Retd.) Isak Sumi was not according to it’.

He went on to claim that the impeachment order was issued without the consultation of “even a single order of the NSCN (K)”, which is “unconstitutional”.

Murumi said they joined the faction not because of Khango Konyak or Isak Sumi but to fight for the Naga nation, and reminded that on January 6, they had impeached Khango Konyak as president.

Even though Luyanba Yimkhiung has been appointed as acting president of Isak Sumi led NSCN/GPRN, he said they were ready to reconcile with Khango Konyak and work together “but if he is not ready to reconcile, the government will continue to work as it was functioning earlier without him”.

Reiterating the same, acting president Luyanba Yimkhiung and Deputy Kilonser, Home, Khone Lanchumong Chang, said ‘if Khango Konyak is ready to reconcile, he will be reinstated as president and Yimkhiung will take the post as vice president’.

Supervisor of Naga Army, Isak Sumi led GPRN/NSCN, Pangging Konyak, narrating a brief journey of Khango Konyak, said late SS Khaplang called on Khango Konyak to take the charge as NSCN (K) vice chairman, and later appointed him as the chairman of NSCN (K) after Khaplang passed away.

However, Khango Konyak was impeached from NSCN (K) as chairman on August 17, and during that period, they decided to form a government where Konyak would be the president of the group, and enter the Naga peace talks.

Pangging Konyak recalled that after forming the Khango Konyak-led NSCN (K), they approached the government of India for a ceasefire. However, the Indian government said NSCN (K) had abrogated the ceasefire and therefore they needed to join either NSCN (IM) or the six Naga national political groups (NNPG).

He mentioned that they struggled for the Naga cause for 30 to 40 years and therefore decided to join the six NNPG and be a part of Naga peace talk as WC-NNPG.

Meanwhile, in a press statement, it said, “To clear the aura of doubt from the mind of Nagas, NSCN/GPRN (K) is not the personal property of any one and as prescribed in the constitution ‘no one is above nation, no one is above righteousness and no one is above the national socialist council’.

“The suffix ‘Khango’ previously used by NSCN/GPRN (K) to differentiate from other, as unfortunately many splinters group have originated from NSCN/GPRN (K), and with the impeachment of Khango Konyak, it will have no significance as the ceasefire agreement is between two entities, the Government of India and NSCN/GPRN represented by its functionaries.

“Therefore with the confidence and mandate of Naga people and the blessing of NNPGs, the NSCN/GPRN once again appeal to all to continue their unwavering support and collaborate together to free the Naga society from the clutches of criminal gang in guise of national workers,” read the statement.
