DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) has trained 83 self-help group (SHG) members as ‘Bima Sakhi’ attached to 83 out of 85 cluster-level federations (CLFs), which encompass 74 rural development blocks in the state.
Bima Sakhi is an SHG member responsible for facilitating insurance enrollment and processing claims for accidents, life, and health, according to a press release.
They also serve as resource persons during SHG member training sessions, educating them with support from performance-based remuneration provided by NSRLM.
It was mentioned that the second batch of ToT for 22 Bima Sakhi for the CLFs concluded on June 20 in Kohima with Rajuselie Lhousa, state programme manager for financial inclusion at NSRLM, as the resource person.
Also, the trainees conducted a field visit-cum-exposure programme to Sechu Zubza Block, where they interacted with village-level organisation (VLO) leaders and state-level awardees on the occasion of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2024.
It should be noted that the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) provides personal accident insurance up to INR 1-2 lakh, the Pradhan Mantri Jivan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) offers life insurance up to INR 2 lakh, and the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) provides health insurance up to INR 5 lakh. These schemes are available to all Indian citizens.
The Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) is a state-specific health insurance scheme available exclusively to citizens of that state. Individuals between the ages of 18 and 70 are eligible to enrol in the PMSBY, while those between 18 and 50 years old are eligible for the PMJJBY.
ABPMJAY and CMHIS have no age bar for registration or enrollment. In addition to claims settled from various insurance schemes, SHG members in Kohima (40), Mokokchung (62), Tuensang (63), and Zunheboto (10) have availed health coverage under CMHIS.
