The Nagaland University women’s team which debuted in the East Zone Football (Women’s) Inter-University Tournament 2024-25 held at National Sports University, Manipur, from Nov. 1 to the 5th.

DIMAPUR — In a significant step forward for sports at Nagaland University (NU), the university’s women football team participated for the first time in the East Zone Football (Women’s) Inter-University Tournament 2024-25 held at National Sports University, Manipur, from November 1 to the 5th.

According to an update from PRO, NU, Vice Chancellor of NU, Prof. JK Patnaik congratulated the players for their courage in stepping onto the competitive stage.

“This is just the beginning, and I am confident that their participation in this tournament will inspire many more students to take up sports at NU,” said Prof. Patnaik.

The team’s participation is part of the effort to develop a robust sports culture at the university. Dr. Harish Kumar Tiwari, DDS, NU, also took the opportunity to appeal to all students at NU to come forward and participate in inter-university and national-level government tournaments.

He emphasised the importance of such platforms in showcasing talent and bringing recognition not only to the players but to the university and the state of Nagaland as well.

As per the update, Nagaland University regularly conducts open trials for various sports, encouraging athletes to showcase their skills with the potential for selection to represent the university in upcoming competitions.

The open trials are open to any student currently enrolled at NU, aged between 17 and 25 years.

“The university aims to harness the sporting potential of its students and bring home medals, boosting both the reputation of the university and the sporting culture in Nagaland,” it added.
