DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has strongly supported the letter issued by the Home Commissioner dated May 20, 2024, directing the Director General of Police (DGP) and Commissioner of Nagaland to ensure compliance of the state government’s orders to enforce the banning of unauthorised collection of money by NGOs etc.

In an update, NVCO president, Kezhokhoto Savi, has urged the DGP and Commissioner to immediately issued instructions to the respective district administrations and police authorities for strict enforcement of the state government orders to prevent and curb unauthorised collection of money in the form of taxes, membership fee, donation, charge, levy, toll or any other form of collection of money on state highways, national highway or market places by union, association, NGOs or any other private and community organisations.

NVCO was surprised to see the statement of Dimapur Municipal Council Employees Welfare Union (DMCEWU), which was published in local dailies on May 16, 2024, requesting the state government to allow DMC to collect urban utility fee/ entry fee from all commercial vehicles entering DMC jurisdiction.

NVCO has appealed to the state government to issue a similar order banning the illegal deduction of public funds especially meant for development in a form of commission, percentage, party fund etc., which seriously affect the quality of work done by contractors.

It further urged associations, unions, church organizations, clubs etc., to refrain from fund-raise by way selling lottery, moudi, packed fruits, cooked meat, buffet ticket etc in an exorbitant rate.
