DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) on Monday called on Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at his residential office and apprised him of the NWA plans, programmes and activities.

The association sought the chief minister’s intervention, support and cooperation towards the promotion of wrestling activities in the state and beyond, an update from NWA stated.

The NWA apprised the chief minister of the association’s plan to impart wrestling training and coaching camps to other non-partcipating wrestling tribes and communities in Naga, national and other international wrestling styles, probably in the month of September and October this year in phase-wise manner.

This is aimed at providing a platform to potential youths to move forward and join the mainstream of the Naga wrestling fraternity and also motivate them to partake in the forthcoming International Hornbill Naga Wrestling Championship and Open Naga Wrestling Championship, tentatively to be held in the last part of February 2025.

Hosting of separate state-level Naga wrestling championship for the non-wrestling tribes and communities after the Open Naga Wrestling championship 2025 is also in the agenda of the NWA, it stated.

The NWA also shared its plan to organise the 17th International Hornbill Naga Wrestling 2024 in a grand manner by inviting wrestlers from mainland India and abroad.
