Amid a section of Bollywood fans calling for a public boycott of ‘Pathaan’, the pre-bookings of Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone‘s upcoming flick have met with a stupendous response from the fans.

As per data from multiple trade trackers, the tickets of ‘Pathaan’ are selling like hotcakes. Giving an update about the ticket sales in leading multiplexes, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted that a total of 1.17 lakh tickets were sold from PVR, Inox and Cinepolis till 11:30 pm on Thursday. He has predicted a great opening for the Hindi flick, which is scheduled to be released worldwide on January 25.

Of 1.17 lakh tickets sold in three multiplex chains, 51,000 tickets were sold from PVR alone. Inox sold 38,500 tickets while Cinepolis sold 27,500 tickets.

According to a report by entertainment outlet Koimoi, a total of 3.2 lakh tickets have been sold across the country. From the pre-release sales, the movie has already earned over INR 15 crore, Hindustan Times reported. It is seen as an indication of Shah Rukh Khan getting a solid opening at the box office. Trade trackers predict that the movie would collect somewhere in the range of INR 35-40 crore on the first day in India.

“Box office is very dynamic and the numbers for booking for day one and the first half of day two – all languages and all formats- are very good. It is contrary to how films scored last year, it is really heartening. The film has already crossed 2.5 lakh ticket sales. I see the film making anywhere between ₹37- ₹40 crore on day one. If everything is on track and the film is what the audience expects it to be, Pathaan may safely gross ₹300 crore worldwide by the end of the first weekend. In India, it can do ₹175- ₹200 crore,” HT quoted producer and film business analyst Girish Johar as saying.

On the other hand, there is a section of the audience who are targeting the movie with ‘#BoycottPathaanMovie’ on Twitter. Citing Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s earlier comments, they want the public to boycott the flick.
