Dimapur, Oct. 12 (EMN): A training of trainers on peace building and conflict resolution was organised by Peace Channel to enhance knowledge and skills of animators and trainers. The two-day training was held at the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) conference hall in Dimapur on October 12.
While addressing the training, Dr.Fr CP Anto mentioned that to bring a lasting solution to the issues faced by the people of Nagaland, “we need a separate ministry to handle the issue like Philippines or Rwanda or any other countries in African region,” an update stated.
The trainers were trained on peace building skills, formation of peace clubs, formation of peer mediation and peace forums etc. The main trainers were Garrol Lotha, Gugu, Alino and Alan.
Peace Channel is a youth peace movement of the third millennium aiming at organising the children and youth to be peace lovers, peace makers and peace promoters. The goal of the movement is to transform the children and youth to be instruments of peace in their own milieu and outside, it informed.
The trainers were trained to form and maintain a peace forum consisting of like minded adults, the religious and community leaders, women and youth groups who are committed to work for peace and prevent all forms of conflicts in the communities.
“They are trained in peace skills like dialogue, mediation and facilitation skills etc. The members when they come together they discuss issues to ensure peace, justice, sustainable development and harmony. It is one of the fundamental functional bodies of the peace movement that brings adults together irrespective of tribe, religion, and region to promote peace and harmony, prevent and intervene in conflicts at village level, district level and state level. They discuss issues, clarify them, rectify them and resolve it by following certain programmes and processes in the movement,” it read.
It added that peer mediation is another functioning body of the movement.
“It is formed among peers, youth and women. When they come together, they discuss issues that are affecting them and find solutions by following certain programmes and processes prescribed by the movement. The purpose of peer mediation is to enhance and promote healthy communication and to reduce violence and practice a healthy discussion platform to eliminate all forms of violent conflicts in the organisations, communities and villages respectively,” it read.
The training concluded with an evaluation and action plan. The movement is open to train church leaders, women and youth leaders to form themselves into peace clubs, peer mediation and peace forums. The movement is actively involved in training the teachers to train as peace builders and promoters of peace education. The training was done in view of making Nagaland a model state for peace building by 2030, it informed.
