Peru joins Wales and Japan as Hornbill Festival partner
DIMAPUR — Peru is the newest partner country for Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival, joining Wales and Japan for the festival’s 25th edition, beginning December 1.
The formal announcement of the partnership took place during a meeting in New Delhi attended by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, his cabinet, including both deputy chief ministers, and the Peruvian Ambassador Javier Manuel Paulinich Velarde on Wednesday.
Later in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rio expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Happy to announce Peru as Country Partner for Hornbill Festival 2024. Met H.E. Mr. Javier Manuel Paulinich Velarde from @EmbaPeruIndia. Peruvian artistes and cultural performers will participate in various events. I am confident the partnership will strengthen bilateral ties.”
According to an update from the state DIPR, the Peruvian delegation confirmed that artists and cultural performers from the South American nation will participate in various festival events. Rio welcomed their participation, expressing confidence that the partnership will strengthen bilateral ties and enhance people-to-people contact.
He appreciated the efforts of the ambassador in making the partnership a reality and conveyed that Nagaland is looking forward to welcoming the Peru delegation to the “Festival of Festivals,” the DIPR stated.
