Dimapur, May 5 (EMN): The principal secretary of PHED, E Mhonbemo Patton, and the chief engineer and HOD, Repangyanba Longkumer, accompanied by other officials of PHED and North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) visited Enhulumi village in Phek district to supervise the Internet of Things (IoT) Smart Water Management.

The IoT is a pilot initiative being implemented by NEIDA in partnership with PHED, government of Nagaland. The pilot project is being funded by the Tata Trusts, an update from PHED stated.

It mentioned that IoT is a sensor-based monitoring system that employs sensors to capture, collate and transmit data via internet on the quality, quantity of water available to the households in the selected villages. It added that the IoT provides real-time information without any manual intervention by using sensors such as chlorine sensor, pressure sensor and flow meters. It would not only allow effective monitoring and management on-ground but also enable real-time visibility to PHED officials and citizens about the status of the water supply.

It stated that the objective of the pilot was to show how the monitoring mechanism could contribute to the Jal Jeevan Mission wider rollout. It added that the data collected at the village level would be automatically sent to the central level Jal Jeevan Mission dashboard of the national informatics centre (NIC) website, which could be accessible by everyone.

Report stated that adopting the remote sensors-based monitoring and controlling could aid in effectively mitigating the issues of operational and maintenance, ensure efficient and responsible use of water and empower the community to own and manage their in-village water supply systems.

Mhonbemo Patton shared that it is the first IoT pilot in Nagaland and encouraged the village community to co-operate and actively engage in operating and maintaining the IoT infrastructures for sustainability.

It further stated that North East Initiative Development Agency was selected as the implementation support agency (ISA) under JJM. An MoU was signed between NEIDA and PHED to work in 148 villages in Phek, Kiphire, Noklak and Tuensang districts.
