DIMAPUR — To ensure the smooth conduct of the ULB elections, the first phase of training for presiding officers and first and second officers took place at Town Hall, Peren town, on Wednesday.

According to a DIPR report, Albert, the nodal officer for training management, stated in his welcome address that the elections in Peren district will be conducted in three towns, each comprising nine wards. He also mentioned that the upcoming ULB election will utilise traditional ballot boxes and paper ballots instead of EVMs.

Furthermore, he informed that the second phase of training is scheduled to be held on June 21, and he appealed to all polling officials to attend the training programmes diligently.

During the first session, Albert emphasised the roles and duties of polling officers on polling day, including setting up polling stations, preparing ballot papers and ballot boxes, maintaining the secrecy of voting by electors, and following the voting procedure.

In the second session, the officials received training on demonstrating the use of the ballot box and paper, followed by hands-on familiarisation with the ballot box.

More than 100 officials participated in the training session.
