Kohima, April 19 (EMN):
The department of Economics and Statistics (DES) on Tuesday launched the portal for online registration of births and deaths in Nagaland at the directorate’s conference hall in Kohima by DES Director, Neidilhou Angami.

In his address, the director said the launching of the portal is a day of joy and achievement, and lauded the officers and staff for enabling the launch of the facility and making it possible.

He asserted that the registration of births and deaths is being implemented through the registration of Births and Deaths Act of 1969 and the Nagaland Correspondence Rule 1999. He maintained that to keep pace with the IT revolution and also on public demand, the office of the Registrar General of India has come out with this software to enable the people to obtain birth and death certificates.

The director said the main objectives of the software are to facilitate and to streamline the citizen- service delivery systems. He pointed out that the system has dual purposes — to enable the public to apply and obtain the birth and death certificates through the online facility and the system has the facility to manage and record data.

He informed that presently, the department is activating two registrars- the Directorate of Economics and Statistics office registrar and the Kohima District Economics and Statistics office registrar — to have the online registration of births and deaths, while the same in all the districts offices will be taken up in a phase-wise manner.

Further, he stated that the department will make an effort to ensure the facility is available in all the 1465 registrars in the state.

With the launching of the portal, Angami also opined that the public would have a convenient way of obtaining birth and death certificates.

Meanwhile, the additional director of DES, Niesatuo Puro who chaired the programme, in his opening remarks stated that the department is registering data manually and have appointed registrars in all the villages.

The application of online registration of births and deaths has been made available and mandatory by the office of the Registrar General of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The application is provided for three level of users — the chief registrar for the supervision of the district registrars and the registrars; district registrars who will register the registrars in the application and the registrars who will login and use the application to enter the data as well as to issue the birth certificates.

He also informed that one login facility is provided for the public, who can also register and apply for the certificates online.

The official maintained that as of now, applications for births or deaths are restricted to within 21 days (of birth or death) without documentation and fee. However, he informed that applications for delayed registration, the public will have to come to the registrar with necessary proof of birth or death.

Following the launch, a demonstration was presented by the officers and the birth certificate of Thejaselhou Yiese, son of Kevilhoutuo from Kohima village, was registered and issued the certificate.

The public can now log in to the Civil Registration System (https://crsorgi.gov.in) to access the portal.
