DIMAPUR — The Poumai tribe of Manipur, in a rare show of solidarity, has decided to support Kho John, former president of UNC, a life time civil organisation activist, to be the candidate in the forth-coming Lok Sabha election.

An update from Election Committee, Poumai Naga Union, issued on Friday informed that the Poumai tribe, one of the major tribal community inhabited at Senapal district, consider him deserving for the job at such critical juncture after taking into account of all aspects.

‘The population and votes of Poumai tribe are distributed in four assembly constituencies, namely, 48 Mao A/C, 47 Karong A/C, 49 Tadubi A/C and 50 Kangpokpi A/C which approximately comes to about a lakh voters,’ it read.

Informing that the tribe has never been an obstacle to other community candidates as well as to the interest of the Naga peoples’ cause or movement, it said that the tribe has never got the chance since the first Indian Lok Sabha election in 1952 till 2019 Lok Sabha election.

‘Ukhrul district have had the opportunity to represent (4) four terms, Tamenglong District (5) five terms and Senapai District by Mao (2) two terms as Member of Parliament till date in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency,’ the update further informed.

The Poumai people has humbly appealed all in the outer Manipur Parliamentary constituencies to extend support to their candidate and also appealed to Naga organisations in particular to help while assuring that their candidature would do justice to all.
