Pranab College celebrates 33rd annual day

DIMAPUR — The 33rd annual day-cum-freshers social of Pranab College was held on September 14 at the college premises in Dimapur, with Prof. Jagadish K Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Patnaik emphasised the significance of integrating the New Education Policy (NEP) into Nagaland University’s educational framework and highlighted its multidisciplinary approach, according to a press release.

Patnaik further encouraged the students to aspire to become global leaders by diligently pursuing their goals and continuously enhancing their skills and knowledge.

He stressed the importance of lifelong learning and adaptability in today’s rapidly evolving world, urging students to seize the opportunities provided by the new educational framework to achieve excellence on the global stage.

Hukheto Yepthomi, chairman of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), who also addressed the gathering, encouraged students to embrace a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and to cultivate strong bonds within the student community. He underscored the importance of women empowerment, noting it as a priority of the DMC.

Nikali Chophy and Nikali Zhimo, DMC councillors and alumni of the college, attended the event as special guests. They congratulated the institution for its successful evolution from a women’s college to a co-educational institution, consistently delivering quality education over the years. They also inspired the students, urging them to remain steadfast in the pursuit of their dreams and aspirations.

During the event, the Governor’s Award was presented to Bibita Sinha for academic excellence, Imjungwatila Longkumer for extra-curricular activities, and Anupoma Chakraborty for social responsibility. The college also felicitated five university subject toppers and presented the best library user award.

Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Dr. Santosh Kumar, principal of the college, mentioned that among the top ten students of undergraduate results declared by Nagaland University, one student secured first rank and a gold medal from the department of Education, while four others also made it among the top ten.

As part of the event, the titles of Mr. and Miss Freshers 2024 were awarded. Engougang from the English department was declared Mr. Freshers 2024, and Nungsangtsungla from the Sociology department was crowned Miss Freshers 2024.

The guest judges for the event were Vitoka Assumi, winner of Grand Mr. Northeast 2023, and Joel Anthony, fashion model and Mr. Dimapur 2024.
