Prohibitory orders to be imposed till June 28 in Dimapur, Chümou, Niuland districts

Partial relaxation on June 27

DIMAPUR — With the conclusion of urban local body (ULB) election on Wednesday, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in jurisdictions under the Dimapur Municipal Council and the East Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Medziphema and Niuland town councils have been partially relaxed with effect from 7 am till 5 pm on Thursday.

Stating this in an order on Wednesday, Dimapur Commissioner of Police, Kevithuto Sophie, noted that the law and order situation is “normal but fragile” and that the possibility of post poll violence cannot be ruled out.

Accordingly, the prohibitory order will be enforced again from 5 pm on Thursday till 7 am on June 28 to prevent post poll violence, which may breach public peace and law and order.

The CP reminded that during this period, assembly of five or more people in public places within the specified jurisdictions is prohibited, along with holding or attending any public meeting, procession or any unlawful assembly in connection with election.

Additionally, carrying lethal weapons or inflammable objects that may endanger public life and property in public places is banned, as well as the use of public address systems in any public place to prevent public annoyance or disturbance.

Any individual or group found in contravention shall be liable for punitive action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant Acts or Regulations, he added.
