RPF conducts drives against illegal hawking activities
DIMAPUR — Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway undertook drives against illegal/ unathorised hawker/ vendors, smokers and litterers in stations and prosecuted 4661 persons and also recovered an amount of INR 10.54 lakh in the past two months.
A press release from RPF stated that an amount of INR 3.20 lakh was collected as fine from illegal/ unauthorised hawkers/ vendors and 1077 persons were prosecuted during the month of April and May from five divisions of NF Railway. Apart from this, an amount of INR 1.74 lakh and INR 5.59 lakh was collected as fine from persons smoking and littering respectively at station premises.
It stated that 926 smokers and 2658 persons littering were prosecuted.
It informed that a total of 75 major railway stations ensured freed of illegal hawking. It added that the efforts would be sustained by RPF to keep the major railway stations free and to ensure better quality food to the passengers besides improving the public sanitation at the railway stations.
It mentioned that illegal hawking, smoking, littering in trains and station premises are prohibited under section 144 (A), under section 167 and under section 145 of The Railways Act, 1989, respectively.
