Sao Chang College students undertake field trip to Yaongyimchen village

The Department of Environmental Science, Sao Chang College, Tuensang, conducted a one-day field study to integrated farm at Lomching, Yaongyimchen village, in Longleng district, on March 18.

The department in an update informed that the field study trip was organised with the objectives to give a fundamental idea about community participation in biodiversity conservation and to reinforce experiential and contextual learning in order to develop a deeper understanding of biodiversity conservation.

The trip started with learning about bee keeping and integrated farming, which was briefed by Kapso Phom, a progressive farmer who owns an integrated farm at Lomching, Yaongyimchen village.

This was followed by students touring Yaongyimchen village in order to learn about community participation in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

“Most of the innovative works in Yaongyimchen are being carried out under community development society called Lemsachenlok Society. This Society comprised of all the bodies making it a strong interim body to carry out the duties in shaping the future by protecting the environment and bringing about sustainable development,” it stated.

It may be mentioned Lemsachenlok Society was recognised by the United Nations Environment Programme in 2015 for its efforts towards conserving the Amur falcon (Falco Amurensis).

During the field study, the students were exposed to new experience about bee keeping and the importance of integrated farming. They were also given the opportunity to learn about the importance of community participation in conserving of nature for future generation.

A total of 202 students including BA and B.Sc 6th semester students and four faculty members took part in the field trip, the update stated.
