DIMAPUR — The School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS) of Nagaland University, Medziphema campus, celebrated its 29th freshers’ social on Friday with Temjenmenba, advisor of Transport and Technical Education, as the special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the advisor exhorted the students to be mindful of the knowledge that they inculcate saying, “Being filled with information will not be productive if the same information is not used for self-development and for going forward and ahead in life.”

He reminded that the knowledge gained today might be redundant in the near future because of the rapid strides made in information technology and the fast pace of development in all spheres. In this regard, he urged the students to be willing to adapt and adjust with an open mind as opportunities might come in disguise, stated an update from the school.

Citing his own life story as an example, the advisor said he had studied various courses in different streams and worked in various capacities and stated that all he had learned along the way has helped him to be able to undertake responsibilities and make sound decisions.

Stating that being literate is different from being educated, he encouraged the students to have passion, perseverance and commitment to learn as much as possible and be willing to work sincerely because the skills and knowledge gained through earnest effort would pave the way for success.

He further exhorted them to never forget their identity and to stand by their culture and rich traditions as that would keep them rooted and motivate to contribute to society in the best possible ways.

The programme was chaired by Pehiareusaphe Ramlya, president of SU:SAS, while an invocation prayer was said by Abel Domeh, EU president, NU:SAS.

Prof. L. Daiho, dean of SAS:NU, delivered the welcome address, while Prof. Akali Sema, pro vice chancellor of SAS:NU, delivered a short speech.
