Senapati district becomes first in NE to have AI-based Diabetic retinopathy machine
IMPHAL — Senapati district in Manipur has become the first district in Northeast to have AI (Artificial intelligence) based Diabetic retinopathy machine at its government run district hospital, officials said.
This 5G Use Case application project (implemented by AMTRON, Guwahati) was inaugurated at Senapati District Hospital located about 60 km north of Imphal on Sep. 29.
Medical Superintendent, Dr. M Sokha of Senapati District Hospital said the district is the first to implement such a project in the Northeast.
Senapati has shortage of manpower, specialists and experts, but with the introduction of such rare machines ‘we are expecting better service in the district hospital’, she said.
Senapati district hospital caters to more than 3 lakh population. The hill district which borders Nagaland has one sub-hospital and 8 primary health centres.
Manipur’s Lok Sabha MP representing Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency Dr. Lorho Pfoze who was present during the formal inauguration of the project, expressed hopeful in reducing the fatalities as it can refer immediately to other health facilities, with such better health facilities.
The introduction of AI Technology in healthcare facilities in the hill district can enhance the clinical decision making, better patient health outcome, modelling disease progression plans which allow them to perform their duties more efficiently, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sumpi Percy of the hill district said.
