T Senka Ao, recipient of Padma Shri and Governor’s Award for Ao literature, released his 16th book titled ‘Apu Kulenji’ (Across the bridge) during a programme held at Aongza Ki in Mokokchung town on March 8.
The book was formally released by the president of Watsu Mungdang, S Arenla Longkumer, in presence of the Ao Senden Literature Board (ASLB) secretary, academicians and well-wishers.
In her address, Arenla Longkumer described Padma Shri T Senka Ao as a priceless gem for the Ao community adding that his books are considered a pool of knowledge for the Ao community. She bemoaned that today’s generation cannot even speak their mother tongue because of the incursion of foreign language.
In such a situation, Longkumer said T Senka Ao has come as a saviour and stressed on the importance of Ao language in the society.
“His understanding and contribution to the Ao language will go a long way,” she said.
Meanwhile, Senka Ao said that language is the identity of a nation. He, therefore, insisted that one should be able to speak, read and write. He further called upon the gathering to work towards promoting Ao language in every capacity.
Short speeches were also delivered by Temjen Tzudir, ASLB secretary, and Bendangsenla, assistant professor of English at Fazl Ali College.
