Several youth turn up during job fair in Mokokchung

MOKOKCHUNG — More than hundred enthusiastic job seekers/ unemployed youth on Friday turned-up during a job fair organised by the District Employment Office (Model Career Centre) and National Career Service, Mokokchung, where five reputed recruiting agencies/ companies from Mokokchung,  mainland India and abroad have participated.

According to T Yimlikhumzuk, district employment officer (DEO), Mokokchung, the event was aimed at providing a platform for job seekers to connect directly with potential employers, facilitating employment opportunities across different sectors besides supporting the local community in their employment endeavours.

He informed a total of 5 different companies from Longpok, Talent Acquaintance, SBI Life Insurance Co. Ltd, JIO Telecom and NSDC & Skill India have collaborated with the department to provide around 20 plus local vacancies and 400 plus vacancies in the mentioned companies.

He informed that it was the first time that a one-day job fair event was held at its office premises. He expressed hope that the event would offer job seekers an opportunity to explore a wide range of career options and on spot interviews.

The DEO also categorically pointed out that as per the record of Directorate of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship as on April 30, 2024, there are 70882 unemployed youth registered in the state.

He informed that as per the department record as on July 2024, there are 2533 unemployed registered in Mokokchung district including 185 post graduates, 665 graduates, 553 pre-university course, 555 matriculates, 465 below matric, 75 degree technical and 33 diploma holders.

He observed that the unemployment youth record would be higher since there are many unemployed youth who have not registered in the department’s database.    

Expressing satisfaction with the overall turnout, he informed that the department would organise such job fairs from time to time.

It was informed that 127 youth were shortlisted by different companies for employment. The companies would further do the screening and issue offer letters to the selected candidates.
