Six-day workshop on craft demonstration begins in Karbi Anglong

Diphu, Sep. 26 (EMN): A six-day workshop on craft demonstration for local artisans organised by Helping Hand for Artisans (HHA), a Guwahati-based NGO and sponsored by the office of Development Commissioner (handicrafts) Ministry of Textiles, was inaugurated at Diphu Club in Diphu on Monday.

Diphu MLA, Bidyasing Engleng inaugurated the craft demonstration in presence of MLA, Dorsing Ronghang; Executive Member (EM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Handloom and Textiles and Fisheries, Madhuram Lekthe; EM, Amarsing Tisso and Member of Autonomous Council, Tilottima Hasnu.

MLA Engleng said that the HHA has shown the path to local artisans for their production in textiles, crafts and hand embroidery products which can be sold in the market.

The artisans during the six-day demonstration will be taught textiles craft and embroidery which will benefit them and help them earn.

EM Lekthe said that the Handloom and Textiles department will provide an amount of INR 10,000 as a grant-in-aid to women SHGs engaged in textiles production.

President of the NGO, Ajay Majhi said 30 local artisans are participating in the demonstration, where various products like traditional handbags, shawls, gamocha, etc. of various artistic textile crafts and hand embroidery crafts are being demonstrated.

The NGO secretary, Debasish Das and Sabina Teronpi, who is working on the promotion of local artisans were also present at the inauguration.
