SJC (A) NSS unit, NTCP resource persons and students of Government High School Jakhama on May 12.

DIMAPUR — The NSS unit of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama conducted  a special camp  at Jakhama village on May 14.

Guided by its motto ‘not me, but you’, 47 volunteers with three programme officers participated in the camp, an update stated.

On the first day, a yoga session led by Kelhouzasie Lawrence, Yoga Instructor, followed by general cleanliness drive along with Jakhama Students’ Union officials within the village.

An awareness programme on ill-effects of tobacco consumption was organised in collaboration with National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) at Government High School, Jakhama with Dr. I Simon Sumi, District Nodal Officer as the resource person. The volunteers also visited Govt. Middle School, Jakhama and conducted some learning activities with the students.

The volunteers visited Primary Health Centre and reached out to the community by visiting the old ages, widows, differently-able, and helped them out in household chores like splitting firewood, fetching water, washing clothes, cleaning the house, etc. The day culminated with the presentation of the report by the group members.

On the second day, the day began with physical exercise (Morning walk) followed by cleanliness drive. As a part of water conservation, the volunteers cleaned three different streams passing through the village.

On the third day, the volunteers were divided into three groups led by the POs and attended the different churches (Catholic Church Jakhama, Christian Revival Church and Baptist Church) and celebrated Mother’s day. After the church service, a valedictory programme was held with Zeneikho Pfukha, State NSS Officer, Dept. of Youth Affairs and Sport, as a special guest.

He congratulated the volunteers for participating and successfully concluding the special camp. He highlighted the importance of NSS and motivated the volunteers to develop their personality through community service. Keviseto Tetso, President, Jakhama Students’ Union and team attended the valedictory function, who expressed their gratitude to the NSS volunteers for their service rendered towards the community.

Meanwhile, the NSS Unit, in collaboration with National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), also organised an awareness programme on the ill-effects of tobacco consumption at Government High School, Jakhama, on May 12.

The programme was organised with a view to protect public health and spread awareness on tobacco consumption.

An update from college stated that the programme commenced with an invocation said by Tokani L, PO NSS SJC (A), followed by welcome note delivered by Kevi.

A detailed powerpoint presentation was presented to the students by the resource person, Dr. I Simon Sumi, district nodal officer.

Kelengol Neikha, PO NSS SJC (A), also spoke about the ill-effects of tobacco consumption and encouraged the students to say ‘No’ to tobacco and say ‘Yes’ to life.

The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Vikato Swu, PO NSS SJC (A).
