SJU Dimapur holds webinar on understanding journalism

Dimapur, Jan. 29 (EMN): Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, St. Joseph University (SJU) Dimapur conducted a webinar on the topic “Understanding Journalism: News Reporting, Editing, Ethics and Principles of Journalism” on Friday.

An update from the institute informed that Dr. Sourav Gupta, senior assistant professor, department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Odisha was the guest speaker, who said that given the socio-cultural diversity of the northeastern region in general and Nagaland in particular, students pursuing journalism courses have a vast scope. 

He stated that journalism is a powerful tool in a democratic society. The first and foremost responsibility should be to make a better society through fair and balanced reporting, Dr. Gupta asserted while expressing concern over the frequent tussle between journalist and authorities in conflict zone like Northeast India.

It said that the webinar began with an introductory speech by Dr. Moirangthem Indrakumar Singh, co-ordinator of the webinar, followed by a welcome address by assistant professor, KD Singh. It concluded with a vote of thanks by HoD, Dr. Naorem Nishikanta Singh. Around 70 participants took part in webinar.
