SS Punglwa is overall champion of Group E games

DIMAPUR — The Group E All India Sainik Schools National Games and Sports 2024, held at Sainik School Punglwa from August 20, concluded on Saturday with Rupin Sharma, Director General of Police, Nagaland, attending the closing ceremony as the chief guest.

According to a press release, over the past five days, five Sainik schools from northeast India—Sainik School Goalpara, Sainik School Imphal, Sainik School Chhingchhip, Sainik School East Siang, and the host, Sainik School Punglwa—competed across various disciplines, including basketball, volleyball, hockey, athletics, and a cultural competition.

Sharma, speaking on the occasion, highlighted that sports teach discipline, which is essential to life. He also reminded the cadets that they are fortunate to be part of Sainik schools, which prepare individuals for any eventuality in life. The chief guest also presented the medals and trophies to the winners.

Sainik School Chhingchhip clinched both the volleyball and basketball championship titles. Sainik School East Siang and Sainik School Imphal emerged victorious in the hockey championship and athletics, respectively. Sainik School Punglwa retained the cultural competition trophy as well as won the overall championship trophy.

The best discipline trophy was awarded to Sainik School Goalpara, recognising their exemplary conduct and sportsmanship throughout the Games. The winners will now represent Group E in their respective events at the national level, to be held at Sainik School Chandrapur, Maharashtra.

Col. Arvind Nautiyal, principal of Sainik School Punglwa, on the occasion, lauded the efforts of all staff and cadets, as well as the guest schools, for the successful completion of the event.
