Streets empty, markets closed in locked down Kohima

Kohima, July 25 (EMN): The first day of total lockdown in Kohima municipal area left deserted scenes across the state capital as people stayed indoors.

Even the busiest markets in town were bare and empty, and the usual traffic jams replaced by empty streets. The regular spots and paths where local street vendors sell their organic vegetables and other products were all clear.

With the increase in Covid-19 positive cases outside quarantine centres in Kohima, which led to the rise of containment and sealed areas, the district task force for Covid-19, during its emergency meeting on July 23, had decided to impose total lockdown in the state capital for seven days i.e., July 25 to the 31st.

The police were seen performing their duty at various points across the town, to check unnecessary movements of vehicles as well as the public.

In some wards, youth volunteers were also seen at certain entry points, to prevent unnecessary movements of its residents. In most of the wards and colonies, movement within its own area has also been restricted.

The deputy commissioner has warned that strict actions would be taken to those who fail to comply with the lockdown rules.
